How Do Amazon Sponsored Brands Differ From Sponsored Products?

Short answer: Sponsored Products are CPC ads that push individual ASINs to the product detail page with keyword or automatic targeting. Sponsored Brands promote the brand with image, video or collection creatives in placements such as top of search, can land on a Brand Store or detail pages, and need Brand Registry enrollment for eligible advertisers. Use SP for ASIN conversion and SB for brand presence; Eva manages both inside Amazon PPC.
What each product is for
Sponsored Products are CPC ads that promote individual product listings on Amazon and select premium apps and websites. Shoppers land on the product detail page so they can browse or buy in one or two clicks. You pick ASINs, choose keyword or product targeting (or let Amazon target keywords automatically), and control bids and budgets.
Sponsored Brands is built to help customers discover your brand inside the Amazon store. Creatives can use video, image or collections. Ads show in prominent placements such as top of search and product pages, and can send traffic to your Brand Store or to product detail pages. Amazon also notes AI-powered image generation for custom visuals at no cost on the Sponsored Brands product page.
Side-by-side comparison
| Dimension | Sponsored Products | Sponsored Brands |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | Sell a specific ASIN from search and related placements | Grow brand awareness and send shoppers to a Brand Store or detail pages |
| Creative | Listing image (and Sponsored Products video where available) | Headline-style brand creative: image, video or collections |
| Landing | Product detail page | Brand Store or product detail pages |
| Eligibility highlight | Buyable ASIN in an eligible marketplace in the last 90 days (terms apply) | Brand Registry enrollment for brands, publishers, KDP authors, agencies and professional sellers (marketplace availability varies) |
| Pricing models | CPC | CPC, vCPM and fixed upfront reserve share of voice options |
| Typical placement callouts | Amazon store and beyond, including Amazon-owned sites and third-party destinations | Top of search and product pages among prominent brand placements |
Steps to choose the mix
- Fix the ASIN first. Sponsored Products cannot rescue a listing with weak content, stockouts or a broken offer. Confirm title, images, price and buy box readiness before scaling bids.
- Start SP for conversion coverage. Use automatic and manual campaigns so you learn search terms, then move winners into exact match and negatives. Eva’s Amazon PPC work treats Sponsored Products as the ranking and efficiency base.
- Add Sponsored Brands once Brand Registry is live. Use SB when you want brand presence above search results, a path into the Brand Store, or multi-ASIN storytelling that a single SP tile cannot carry.
- Match the pricing model to the goal. Use CPC when the job is clicks to a page. Consider vCPM when the job is brand impression share. Use reserve share of voice only when a branded top-of-search placement is worth a fixed buy.
- Read results on contribution, not only ACoS. SB often looks “expensive” on last-click ACoS because it builds demand that converts later on SP or organic. Judge the mix on total sales, new-to-brand signals where available, and stock.
Exceptions
- Adult, used, refurbished and closed-category products are called out as not eligible for Sponsored Brands on Amazon’s product FAQ.
- No Brand Registry yet. You can still run Sponsored Products on eligible listings while trademark and Brand Registry enrollment finish.
- Thin catalog. A one-ASIN brand may get more from SP plus a simple SB custom-image or video unit than from large collection layouts.
- Guaranteed rank claims. Neither SP nor SB guarantees page-one placement; auction, relevance, bid and budget decide delivery.
Eva is an Amazon Ads Advanced Partner that manages Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display. PPC is included in the Amazon Growth Package from $1,295/mo on Eva’s pricing page (Advertising, AI Visibility and Catalog Management, Vueria included; never a percentage of ad spend). The team connects bids to ranking, inventory and profit so Brand campaigns do not burn budget when ASINs are out of stock or unprofitable.
Follow-up questions
Do I need Brand Registry for Sponsored Brands?
Amazon Ads states Sponsored Brands is available to brands, book publishers, Kindle Direct Publishing authors, agencies, and professional sellers enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry. Features can vary by marketplace. Sponsored Products does not require Brand Registry enrollment the same way; it promotes individual listings for sellers who meet Amazon Ads eligibility (including a buyable ASIN in an eligible marketplace within the last 90 days, with terms applying).
Are both ad types only cost-per-click?
Sponsored Products are cost-per-click (CPC) ads. Sponsored Brands supports more than one pricing model based on campaign goal: CPC for driving page results, cost per 1,000 viewable impressions (vCPM) for brand impression share, and fixed upfront pricing with reserve share of voice for branded top-of-search placements. Amazon publishes no universal CPC rate card; you set bids and budgets.
Where should Sponsored Display fit?
Sponsored Display is a separate Amazon Ads product for display placements on and off Amazon. Eva’s Amazon PPC page lists Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display together as the managed Sponsored Ads set. Use SP for ASIN conversion, SB for brand presence and Store traffic, then add Display when remarketing and audience reach are the next bottleneck, not as a substitute for clean SP/SB structure.
