Short answer: On October 21, 2026, Walmart announced Agent Profiles, the Walmart Agent Gateway and terms for AI agents. The gateway gives AI agents a direct, faster way to search and shop Walmart instead of clicking through the website, starting as a beta for companies and developers. The announcement does not include a seller enrollment step. What it changes for sellers is that your Walmart listing, price and availability become the data an AI agent reads when a customer asks it to shop, so listing quality and in-stock rates matter even more.

What Walmart announced

PieceWhat Walmart says it does
Agent ProfilesLaunching in the next month. Each AI agent gets its own profile inside the customer’s Walmart account, so the agent’s purchases show separately. Customers can require approval for every purchase or set a spending limit, for example $50, $100 or $200.
Walmart Agent GatewayA faster, more reliable way for agents to shop using MCP, instead of following website steps designed for people. It starts as a beta for companies and developers, and helps agents find a customer’s usual items without sharing the customer’s broader shopping history.
Terms for AI agentsCustomers approve agent purchases by default. Agents must not act beyond what the shopper intends, do not receive payment card information, can access only the information needed for the task, and are blocked if they do not follow the terms. Walmart’s returns process applies.

What it means for Walmart sellers, step by step

  1. Your listing is what the agent reads. Walmart says the gateway is built so agents can search and shop Walmart directly. An agent comparing options can only use the titles, attributes, images, prices and availability on your listing, so fix gaps before agent traffic grows.
  2. Same price for agents and people. Walmart says agents see the same prices a human sees on Walmart.com. There is no separate agent price to manage, so keep your Walmart pricing competitive and consistent.
  3. Repeat purchases get easier. Walmart’s example is an agent finding a customer’s usual sourdough bread or brand of milk. Replenishment products with steady stock and consistent listings are the most direct fit.
  4. Approval steps stay with the customer. Customers approve purchases by default or set spending limits. Clear titles, pack sizes and prices help a customer approve an agent’s choice quickly.
  5. Returns policy still applies. Walmart says its returns process applies even if an agent does not act as intended. Accurate attributes reduce wrong-item orders and returns.
  6. Watch for more detail. The gateway is a beta and Walmart says features may change. Keep your listing quality work going rather than waiting for a seller program.

Exceptions

  • Invitation-only beta. Walmart’s beta page says access is limited, available by invitation only and may be suspended at any time.
  • Customer choice. Walmart says shopping with an agent won’t be for everyone, and it doesn’t have to be.
  • Rules for agents, not sellers. The new terms govern AI agents. The announcement does not mention any change to Walmart Marketplace seller policies.
How Eva handles this

Eva’s Walmart and marketplace expansion team runs listing quality, pricing and availability on Walmart, the same data an AI agent reads. Walmart fee and inventory discrepancies can be recovered through Walmart reimbursements.
