How Do I File an Amazon FBA Reimbursement Claim?

Short answer: First check the Reimbursements report in Seller Central, because Amazon now reimburses most units lost or damaged in its fulfillment centers on its own. If a unit is missing and no reimbursement shows, file a manual claim with your evidence before the window closes. Lost or damaged inventory claims must be filed within 60 days, and the other claim types have their own windows, so claims need a weekly routine, not a yearly clean-up. Removal claims always need a manual filing.

Claim windows Amazon announced

Claim typeWhen you can file
Lost or damaged in a fulfillment centerNo later than 60 days after the item was reported lost or damaged
FBA customer return not returned or not reimbursedBetween 45 and 105 days after the customer refund or replacement
Removal order lost in transitBetween 15 and 135 days from shipment creation
Removal order damagedWithin 120 days of the shipment delivery date
Removal order gradingWithin 120 days of the date the item was removed from the fulfillment network
Re-evaluation requestWithin 90 days of the initial claim

Amazon updated these windows effective October 15, 2025, in a Seller Central announcement. Policies change, so confirm the current windows on the FBA inventory reimbursement policy page in Seller Central before you file.

How to file, step by step

  1. Check what Amazon already paid. Open the Reimbursements report and match it against your inventory adjustments. Do not file for units that were already reimbursed or found.
  2. Pick the right claim type. Fulfillment center loss or damage, customer return, or removal. Each has its own window and process in Seller Central.
  3. Gather evidence before you file. Have the shipment or removal ID, the units and dates involved, and proof of what you sent, such as invoices or carrier tracking. Provide everything the claim form asks for.
  4. File inside the window. Put the claim dates on a calendar. A customer return claim filed before day 60 is too early, and most other claims expire after day 60.
  5. Track the outcome. Note the case ID, the amount and the date, and check that the reimbursement appears in the report.

Exceptions

  • Shipments to Amazon. Inbound shipment discrepancies follow their own claim process. Check the shipment-to-Amazon claim rules in Seller Central.
  • Removal orders. These are never reimbursed automatically. Every removal claim is manual.

Follow-up questions

Does Amazon reimburse lost FBA inventory automatically?

Mostly, yes. Amazon announced that from November 1, 2024 it proactively reimburses FBA items lost in its fulfillment centers as soon as they are reported lost, and that almost all warehouse lost and damaged and customer return cases are reimbursed proactively. Removal claims still have to be filed manually.

When can I file a claim for a customer return that never came back?

Amazon’s window for FBA customer returns claims is 45 to 105 days after the customer refund or replacement, under the windows in effect since October 15, 2025. Do not file before day 45, because the customer still has time to return the item.

Where do I see what Amazon has already reimbursed?

Amazon says proactive reimbursements can be tracked in the Reimbursements report in Seller Central. Check it before filing, so you do not file for units Amazon already paid.
