How Do I Upgrade to Shopify Plus?

Short answer: In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Plan, click Change plan, select Plus, choose a billing term and click Subscribe. Only the store owner or a staff member with the Manage plan permission can do it, and Shopify asks that person to verify their identity through Stripe with a government-issued photo ID. Shopify lists Plus from $2,300 a month, and eligible stores can start a paid Plus trial at $399 a month first.

How to upgrade, step by step

  1. Check who can sign. The store owner or a staff member with the Manage plan permission must authorize any plan change.
  2. Decide trial or direct. If your store is eligible, Settings > Plan shows Try Plus. The trial gives most Plus features for 1 to 2 months; expansion stores, organization-level settings and bot protection are held back until the full plan.
  3. Set billing currency first. Shopify suggests updating your billing currency before you upgrade. Local currency billing for new Plus merchants is offered in India, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and Canada; elsewhere it is USD.
  4. Select Plus. In the Shopify admin go to Settings > Plan, click Change plan, Choose plan or Select plan, click Select Plus, choose the billing term and click Subscribe. From a trial, click Upgrade early, confirm a 1-year or 3-year term, then I accept and agree and Subscribe.
  5. Verify identity. Shopify opens a Stripe check: scan the front and back of a government-issued photo ID. If it fails, you can retry with a different ID.
  6. Expect an immediate bill. On an upgrade Shopify bills the new plan’s subscription fee right away, activates the new features immediately and prorates the difference against your old plan. Outstanding charges are billed separately.

Exceptions

  • Trials roll over. A Plus trial becomes a full Plus plan automatically if you take no action.
  • Promotional pricing does not carry over. If you are on a promotional trial and change to a plan the promotion does not cover, such as Plus, the promotional price does not apply.
  • Downgrading has side effects. Leaving a Plus trial removes Plus-only B2B features, Hydrogen storefronts beyond one, Shopify Audiences, Launchpad events, Combined Listings and checkout app blocks, and deactivates locations or staff above the new plan’s limits.
  • Discontinued plans. If your store is on a plan Shopify no longer sells, you cannot switch back to it after changing plans.
How Eva handles this

Eva’s Shopify management starts with a days 0 to 30 foundation phase that audits the store, listings, pricing and operations and, where needed, rebuilds or migrates the store architecture, so a Plus upgrade is judged against what the store will actually use. The brand keeps administrative ownership of its Shopify and advertising accounts and gives Eva role-based access, which is also why the plan change itself is signed by the store owner.

Follow-up questions

How much does Shopify Plus cost?

Shopify’s US pricing page lists Plus from $2,300 a month. Eligible stores can start a paid Plus trial first, which Shopify’s Help Center lists at $399 a month in USD and which lasts 1 to 2 months depending on the store. Card processing, apps and themes are separate costs.

Can a staff member or an agency upgrade my store to Plus?

Only the store owner or a staff member with the Manage plan permission can change the plan. When Plus is selected, Shopify asks the person subscribing to verify their identity through Stripe with a government-issued photo ID, so the upgrade is normally done by someone at the brand, not by an outside contractor.

What happens if I do nothing at the end of a Plus trial?

Shopify says the store is automatically enrolled in a full Plus plan when the trial ends, with terms based on the options you chose when you set up the trial. If you do not want Plus, downgrade before the trial ends and review which Plus-only features you will lose.
